Victors Value Investments (VVI) is an undergraduate investment club at the University of Michigan, with over $10,000 in assets under management. We manage a highly concentrated, long-only portfolio focused on Midwestern US equities. Our mission is to bring investing experience to our members, while promoting education, performance, and industry exposure to students of all levels and backgrounds. Members learn not only how to analyze market sectors and securities, but also how to present their ideas to others.
Every semester, VVI runs an education program designed to teach new members the foundation of good value investing. We cover a wide variety of content, starting from the basics of investing to more complex topics like valuation, technical analysis, and information sourcing. Topics are presented by executive board members, but structured to be highly discussion-based.
From the beginning, new members are grouped with older members to work on projects. Our club meets weekly to hear group investment pitches, followed by an open Q&A session. Through this process, we obtain a highly-concentrated portfolio that we feel confident in holding for the long run.
Our investments are focused in Midwestern equities. Michigan and the greater Upper Midwest region provide investors with a rich landscape of outstanding companies that we are better positioned to understand through our geography. We are neither arguing for a superior investment strategy nor are we suggesting that Michigan is better than anywhere else. We are undergraduate students seeking for a greater understanding of the companies around us through fundamental analysis. For a longer explanation, see our "Why Michigan" blog post.
VVI was founded by Axel Steinmetz, Jack Mollin, and Frank Liao in the Fall of 2017.
We are on a constant quest to learn more and to develop personally
To get the best portfolio, we must be truthful with our opinions and assumptions. We value openness, honesty, and candor
From personal to professional, and from social to skilled, we want to grow in all facets.
Our location helps define out investment strategy. The University of Michigan and the Ross School of Business have provided us with many wonderful opportunities, and that makes us love our location.
